There Are No “Small Things”

The minute decisions that we make day in and day out, are the decisions that define who are.

We often overlook the small things, thinking they aren’t as important. We have the mindset that God won’t care if I’m not doing this “small thing”, because I am getting the “big things” right.

But we see in Luke 16:10–14 ERV “Whoever can be trusted with small things can also be trusted with big things.”

Overlooking these “small things” could be the very thing that is delaying your growth or blessing. Maybe God needs you to take a look at the small decisions you are making for change to happen.

These small micro decisions that we make every day, end up compiling into one big decision over a period of time. For example, if you make the small decision to not pray today, and then make that same decision tomorrow. Before you know it, it’s been a week and then a month without prayer. If we leave the small things unchecked, then the big things will be disrupted as a result.

Our actions reveal where our values lie. Getting the small things right determine if we will get the big things right.

How can God trust us with the “big things” in our lives if we can’t spend 10 minutes in the morning praying with him?

How can God move us into the next season of our lives if we are still holding onto things that he asked us to let go of?

How can he bring blessing into our lives if we are still ignoring the small convictions we feel?

These are small everyday decisions that you could be missing if you are not paying attention. If you are so focused on the end result, and not the work that is needed to get there. You’ll never make it to your destination.

The question “How can he bring blessings into our lives if we are still ignoring the small convictions we feel?” Really hit home for me. I previously viewed conviction, as the obvious big sins that we read in the Bible. But conviction can be anything God places on your heart.

There may be “small things” that the Bible doesn’t clearly call out, but you still feel convicted. I know I personally held onto things that I didn’t see as sinful. But I still felt convicted doing it. God puts these things on our hearts for a reason. It’s your job to listen when he is talking to you.

If you can’t let go of these “little things” for God. Then he can’t make room for the big things you desire.

So ask yourself, are your “small things” bringing you further from God or closer to God?

If you struggle with wondering if something is sinful. Ask yourself that question above. Will this bring me closer to the father or further from him? Will this glorify God or disappoint him?

Don’t fall victim to the busyness of life. It’s important to keep audit of your decisions and have people you can trust to hold you accountable.

Make sure you are consciously choosing your life and not just settling for it.
